Laura Socorro Valdez

On September 3, 2021, the Lord welcomed another angel, Laura del Socorro Valdez. Laura was born on July 12, 1955, to Francisco Garcia and Ana Maria Villegas in Mexico City, Mexico. At a young age, Laura dreamed of coming to the United States, having a large family, and living a more prosperous life. In the mid 1980's, she met and married the love of her life, Raul. Together they built a beautiful family and fulfilled all of her dreams. Laura dedicated her life to her four children, grandchildren, husband, church, and community where she touched countless lives with her constant selfless acts of love and compassion. Her kindness and leadership were felt throughout the various organizations she served including Cursillo Christian Movement, Legion of Mary, Eucharistic Ministry, lectors, Grupo de Oración, and many other ministries throughout her evangelization journey. She loved her garden, children, traveling, rock collecting, swimming, and most of all, dancing. She was so full of joy. Despite her extreme pain in her last days, she never complained. She called her illness a blessing because it brought her family closer together. Laura is survived by her husband Raul Valdez; children Laura Semko, Andrew Valdez, Gerardo Valdez, and Jessica Valdez; grandchildren Edison Reeder and Alexander Semko; siblings Andres Garcia, Francisco Garcia, and Gabby Garcia. She will forever be loved and treasured. The world is a better place now because we were blessed with Laura's soul. An angel has gained her wings. A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at 11:00 AM at St. George Catholic Church with Father Henry Atem and Father Randy Mattox officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Newnan.
