Lloyd Ferrell Parrott

Lloyd Ferrell Parrott, a devoted husband, exemplary parent and a kind and compassionate friend left this world peacefully on January 7, 2012 and entered into the presence of his Heavenly Father who had so forcefully influenced his earthly life. He was welcomed into the lives of his parents, the late Lloyd and Nannie Rebecca Young Parrott on May 2, 1921 in Fayette County. Both preceded him in death. He grew up in Newnan and embraced the idea of a town that was small enough for everyone to know each other. He attended Atkinson Elementary School and Newnan High School. During those high school years he played football and felt it was no small accomplishment that he was the fastest man on the team and would gladly remind anyone that was not aware of that fact. On October 17, 1941 he married the young woman who would come to define his life, Emily Wathern Shell Parrott. He was devoted to her and anybody would quickly know that she was the love of his life. When World War II came into prominence, he, like so many of his generation, heeded the call to service. In the Army Air Corps, he was a flight engineer on the B24 bomber stationed at Smyrna Air Base in Murfreesboro, TN and at Andrews Air Base in Washington DC. After being discharged from the service, his ideal life was spent in the bucolic parts of Coweta County as he loved being in the communities of Turin and Senoia. It was only because of his health issues that he moved away from these surroundings and made his home at Georgian Place in 2008 and lived there until his death. An electrician by trade, he worked for Lindsey’s Electrical, William L. Bonnell and later was self-employed. In the 1960’s he launched into the new ideas of coin laundries and car washes and built Parrott Coin Laundry and Car Wash. He was clever, creative and inventive. He used his creative imagination to make some interesting inventions to solve problems at his laundry and car wash business. A member of Turin United Methodist Church, he was also an affiliate member with Newnan First United Methodist Church, Polly Crowley Sunday School Class. His community associations included Masonry, membership in the White Oak Golden K Kiwanis Club, and the ROMEOS (retired old men eating out) at the Senoia Coffee Shop. Ferrell Parrott truly enjoyed life. He found pleasure in sharing stories of his adventures as a child, his army years and funny stories about himself, friends and people with whom he worked. He was devoted to his family and there was no doubt that he was a loving and generous grandfather. Their visits with him were his greatest delight and built a three story play house in his yard to amuse them. Surviving Mr. Parrott are his children, Alice Parrott Miller and Robin, Richard Ferrell Parrott and Bernice, David Lloyd Parrott and Carol. His grandchildren include Robert Ferrell Miller and Laura Leigh, Rachel Miller Rice and Andy, Rebecca Ann Parrott, Donna Parrott Morgan and Jamison, Nicole Ferrell Parrott, Laura Parrott Hightower and Nathan, Catherine Parrott Gray and Rod, Emily Parrott Budd and Candler. There are 13 great grandchildren, 2 step-great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. The family wishes to acknowledge Georgian Place for the faithful, loving care he received while living there and also to Amedisys Hospice Care for their compassionate care and love during the final two weeks of his life. Funeral arrangements are by McKoon Funeral Home at 38 Jackson Street. Visitation with the family will be on Monday evening between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at 3:00 PM in the McKoon Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Griff Jones, Reverend JoAn Kinrade and Dr. Med Roach officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Mr. Parrott’s memory may be acknowledged by memorial contributions to The Turin United Methodist Church or The Newnan First United Methodist Church.
