Ann Ellen Coffey

Ann Ellen Coffey (née Day) passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Saturday, June 7th, with her much beloved son Robert by her side. Ann leaves behind nearly a century of wisdom, her love of God, family, and church, willingness to help anyone, and fantastic cooking. Born in Passaic, New Jersey, on May 19th, 1932, as the only child of Robert and Mary Day (née Antonek), Ann spent her early childhood growing up in Nutley, New Jersey, next to the famous Nichols Park, where she cultivated a love of ice skating across the duck pond. It was on the Jersey Shore where she met and later married her love John Coffey, a U.S. Navy veteran who served in "Lighter than Air" on Air Ships and also served on the staff at Supreme Allied Commander Atlantic Fleet as one of four-star Admiral's Yeoman. Ann attended Mountainside Nursing School, where she earned her RN license in 1952. Following her graduation and to be closer to her new husband, John, she took on a role at a hospital in Brunswick, Georgia (her southern claim to fame) and found a true passion for the delicacy of working in an operating room, where she spent the better part of her 40-year career. She never lost the sass and quick turnabout when handling doctors and other young nurses, even these 70+ years later. After John's service in Georgia was complete, he and Ann moved back to Nutley, New Jersey, after a quick stop in Norfolk, Virginia, where they would eventually adopt their two young sons. John and Ann would live in Nutley for the rest of their lives (54 years married), dedicated to their small town and their Church, where John served as a Deacon and Alcohol and Drug counselor, and cared for their children and eventual grandchildren. After living alone in her ancestral family home became too cumbersome, Ann moved to Georgia to be closer to her son Robert and his family, where she lived until her death. Ann enjoyed listening to music, particularly Luciano Pavarotti, gardening her lush landscapes, drawing, knitting, and doing puzzles. She was a founding member of the Puzzle Club at Westhill Senior Living Facility, a legacy that will remain entombed on a plaque in the lounge. Ann is survived by her son Robert and his late wife Jane; Son Joseph Coffey and his wife Diane; granddaughter Charlotte Coffey and her husband Justin Hale; grandson Jack Coffey and his wife Nicole; granddaughter Danielle Coffey; grandson Brandon and Anna Coffey; and her great-granddaughters, Myla, Athena, and (soon to be) Sophie Jane Coffey. Funeral Services will be held at McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson St, Newnan, GA 30263, on June 18th at 2:00 PM in the Chapel, with visitation from 1:30 PM until the service. Ann will be laid to rest with a graveside service at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Montclair, New Jersey on June 25th at 11 am, where she will be reunited with her late husband John, mother Mary, Father Robert, and Aunt Stella and Uncle Frank.
