Betty Louise Stanford

A wise person penned these words: "Think of me as living in the hearts of those I touched, for nothing loved is ever lost and I have loved so much." If there is a Miss Congeniality prize in heaven, Betty Stanford is a shoo-in for that honor. Her smiles were engaging, her welcomes sincere, and her hugs were incredibly comforting. The sweet story of life and love for Betty Louise Jones Stanford began in Carroll County, Georgia. She was born on February 11, 1933 and was one of nine children born to the late Floyd Winston and Ruby Marzell Herrin Jones. Betty found true love when she met Kenneth Glover Stanford. They were married in 1950. Tragically, their first child, Kathy Elaine died in 1951. Kenneth was drafted during the Korean War and the next few years were busy ones before he was discharged in 1955. During this time he was stationed at Fort Jackson and the roads between Coweta County and Ft. Jackson were busy as new daughters were added to the mix and Betty was not a fan of being separated from Kenneth or the girls. Betty was an incredibly resourceful person. A 12th grade was added to the curriculum in the schools her senior year, but she did not necessarily agree with that, so she opted out in what she considered her senior year. Kenneth was a skilled mechanic and operated his own business on Fourth Street in Newnan. He needed a bookkeeper so Betty jumped into the mix. She had a knack for math and a strong desire to learn bookkeeping, so she wisely absorbed information she would glean from other bookkeepers. Like everything else she attempted, she was the best. Every large family needs someone to look to when something needs to happen. In the Jones' family, that person was Betty. All of her brothers and sisters would attest to the fact that she brought all the harmony needed to bind their family together. Her love, though sometimes a little straightforward, was unconditional. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her siblings, Marvin Jones, Horace Jones, Peggy Jones McElwaney, and recently, James Jones. Her deceased grandparents were Willie and Birdie Phillips Jones and Monroe and Kate Williams Herrin. Her beloved husband Kenneth died suddenly in 1997. Betty also endured the loss of three of her children, Kathy Elaine Stanford in 1951, Belinda Gail Stanford McEachern in 2012, and Betty Faye Stanford Moore in 1996. In spite of all the losses in her family, she doubled down to keep their memories alive and her large family together. There was a welcoming cookie jar and candy jar filled and conveniently placed in her kitchen. It was not at all unusual for her to place an early morning call to sing "Happy Birthday". In turn, she was honored by her daughters, Debra Kay Stanford Hogan and Susan Stanford (Glenn) Cooper until she drew her last breath. She made her flight into the arms of the God who created her 0n December 31, 2023 while in the presence and the care of those who loved her dearly. Betty adored her grandchildren Amy Hogan (Michael) Bessette, Stanford Moore (Patrick Brannon), Beth Moore, Troy (Leslie) Hogan, Ken (Shana) Cooper, Mitch (Marlena) McEachern, Chase (Amber) Cooper. Her life was blessed by her great grandchildren Kenzi (Luke) Henry, Joseph Parker, Devin McEachern, Kaydon Cooper, Will Tant, Glover Cooper, Bryson Cooper, Ellington Hogan, Carson Hogan, Liam McEachern, Micah McEachern and Stormy Cooper. Her surviving siblings are Carl (Gloria) Jones, Jerry (Betty) Jones, Lynda Jones (Jett) Smith, and Marzell (Jimmy) Shadix. Betty's faith was grounded in her love for her church Providence Baptist Church. Her pastor of many years, Reverend Ken Norton, assisted by Allen Jones and her son-in-law Reverend Glenn Cooper will officiate the memorial service to honor the life of this Godly woman. The service will be on Friday, January 5, 2024 at 4:00 PM in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home. The family will receive friends beginning at 2:00 PM at the funeral home. The interment will be in Historic Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Providence Baptist Church, Meals on Wheels, or Tanner Hospice.
