Bobby Lynn Payne

Bobby Lynn Payne transitioned to his heavenly home peacefully on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at the age of 87. Bobby was born September 18, 1937, to parents Kirby and Mamie Payne. One of 5 children, he was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Peggy Triana; and brothers, Hank Payne, Glen Payne, and W.C. Payne. He was also preceded in death by his wife and soulmate, Dellia Katherine Wallace Payne. In their 64 years of marriage, they shared many wonderful adventures. Bobby called Bogalusa, LA, home and lived most of his life there before moving to Newnan, GA in 2020. On June 21, 1959, Bobby married the love of his life, Kat. Together they had two children, Troy (Crystal) Nelson Payne and Tori (John) Payne Sorrells. Bobby and Kat loved being grandparents to 5 grandchildren: David (Amanda) Koon, Chelsea (Scott) Payne Morris, Colt (Holly) Payne, Kyle (Hannah) Sorrells, and Petty Officer 2nd Class Dirk Landon Sorrells. And though they thought the grandchildren were the absolute best gift from God, they were further blessed with 9 great-grandchildren: Landon Koon, Kase Koon, River Koon, Payne Morris, Patton Morris, Parks Morris, Everly Pearl Payne, Rowan Sorrells, and Boden Sorrells. Bobby went to work as a plumber's apprentice when he was a teenager. He later tried several different careers including commercial pilot and law enforcement but eventually returned to plumbing. He failed retirement several times. More than a few young men who apprenticed under him learned a lot of valuable plumbing skills as well as life lessons. Anyone who worked with Bobby knew that 15 minutes before start time was about 10 minutes late. Bobby was that guy who could do almost anything, and fix almost anything. He also retired from the Army National Guard, where he cultivated many life long and valued friendships. He was an aviation enthusiast earning his private pilot license circa 1963. He loved flying planes, reading about planes, looking at planes, teaching others to fly planes, and hanging out with people who loved planes. His 87th birthday party was at an airplane hanger. Even after being disabled from a stroke, in 2022, he flew from the right seat and shot a perfect ILS approach. Bobby loved traveling the United States and being with friends. He shared meals with friends frequently. He hosted amazing crawfish boils. He loved LSU football and enjoyed many away games. He was a long time motor sports fan, especially NASCAR and Sprint car racing. He almost always had a boat and spent many days making memories with friends and family in the beautiful swamps and rivers of Louisiana. Bobby was a member of Westside Emmanuel Baptist Church and enjoyed worshipping and fellowship with long time friends. After he moved to Newnan, GA in 2020, he enjoyed worshipping with his family at Newnan City Church. Bobby made his mark on this earth where people often commented that they were blessed by his smile, or who say they were grateful that they were able to meet this great man.
