Buddy L. Stanford

Buddy Lafayette Stanford passed into his eternal life surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, March 30, 2024. Buddy was 77 years old. His life's journey began in Pinckard, Alabama on October 3, 1946. He was the third-born child of the late Hilburn and Bessie Stanford. In 1963, Buddy and his family moved to the Raymond Community of Coweta County where he attended East Coweta High School. It was there that he met his future wife, Paula Martin. She became Paula Martin Stanford upon their marriage in 1967. Buddy was an Army Veteran being stationed in Aberdeen, Maryland, and later served in Korea, and then stationed in Hunstville, Alabama. His honorable discharge was in 1970. Following his time in the Army, Buddy and Paula returned to their roots in Raymond. Buddy began his career with Georgia Power. Their family increased with the birth of two sons, David and Jon. Buddy possessed a tremendous work ethic. Even before he retired from Georgia Power, he built and remodeled houses, ran a sawmill, and farmed. In his later years, Buddy had a great interest in restoring antique tractors. He took immense pleasure in watching his sons and grandsons competing in the annual Turin Tractor Pull as well as many other competitions around the state, proudly wearing his red Alabama Crimson Tide hat. Surviving Buddy is his devoted wife Paula Martin Stanford, his two sons David (wife Kim), and Jon (Serena Coogler). He was proud of his grandsons Thomas Stanford and Tyler Stanford, and Tyler's fiancé Rylee Campbell. His surviving siblings are Betty Jo Adams, Bobby Stanford (wife Suzanne), and Barbara Stanford. There is a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by Paula's parents, Elliott and Elizabeth Martin. The service to honor the life and legacy of this good man will be on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at 2:00 PM in the McKoon Chapel at 38 Jackson Street. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 noon and continuing until 2:00 PM. The interment will be in the Mt. Gilead Methodist Church Cemetery.
