Carolyn Michelle Brinson Carolyn was truly a sensational woman who graced us with her presence on September 12th, 1960. To say that Carolyn was fabulous would be an understatement. She was beautiful, confident, sophisticated, selfless, compassionate, nurturing, loving, adventurous, and most of all, Classy! She hailed from the great city of Detroit, MI where she learned to be the tough and courageous woman, we all knew. At the age of 3 she, her younger brother Darnell and her parents moved to Germany where she spent her first year of early education, and also adapted the German language. After spending 3 years living in Germany, she and her family moved back to Detroit where she would continue her childhood and education before moving to Columbus, OH at the age of 30 with her two sons. After spending 6 years developing her professional skills in Columbus, she relocated back to Detroit, MI and spent an additional 10 years there before ultimately settling in Las Vegas NV. Carolyn was baptized and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age in New Grace Missionary Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of the late Rev. Julius C. Hope. While living in Las Vegas, she chose Unity Baptist Church as her new church home where she invested time in becoming an active member and developing relationships throughout the ministry. Aside from the academic and professional success that Carolyn achieved, what she took pride in the most was her philanthropic efforts. She was a key member of the “Helping Hands” foundation in Las Vegas, NV where she participated in over a hundred “Feed the Elderly” missions in which she would volunteer to personally deliver food boxes to underprivileged senior citizens and was awarded and recognized for her efforts by the organization. She also volunteered with multiple feed the homeless initiatives through her church and was such a compassionate giver to those in need. Carolyn's time living in Las Vegas were some of the best years of her life. She loved her career as a project manager in the casino gaming industry, where she had the opportunity to travel all over the country and even had the opportunity to travel to South America where she developed her love for what she called "chill out music". She enjoyed the weather, entertainment, and everything else Las Vegas had to offer; however- most importantly- she enjoyed the new found friendships she made that turned into an extended family to her. From the moment she first arrived in Las Vegas, she was greeted with open arms. Coworkers became friends, and all of the friends she made became her family. She became a member of a sisterhood called "The Circle of Sisters" and also became an “adopted” mother to several people. If anyone knew Carolyn, they knew that aside from her favorite color being purple, her deep love for family and friends, and her obsession with elephants and her cars (especially the Mustang GT), most importantly she adored her grandchildren. With her living in separate cities from her grandchildren, she went through great lengths to always be there for them on holidays, birthdays, special occasions, or even if she was on the road working in a city close by. Carolyn took great pride in being a grandmother. Her house, desk at work, and cell phone were filled with pictures of her grandchildren; and there wasn't a day that went by where she didn't brag about how much she loved them and how special they were to her. Our beautiful Carolyn went home to be with the Lord on September 8th, 2019. In her passing, she precedes her mother Vera Jones (Willie Jones Sr.), and her father Bill Myers (Karen Myers). She leaves her legacy to be fulfilled by her eldest son David Leonard, her youngest son Shannon Leonard (Dominique Leonard), and her beautiful grandchildren Lianah Leonard, Shannah Leonard, and Shannon Leonard Jr. She leaves her memory to be cherished by her siblings: Darnell Myers (Donya), Jacob Myers (deceased), Eric Myers, Angel Jones, and Wil Jones (Brandon); along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Carolyn touched each and every soul that she connected with, and she was the epitome of a best friend, a loving child, a caring family member, a nurturing mother, a proud grandmother, and a beautiful soul. Carolyn belonged to all of us. To have known her was to have loved her, and she will forever be with us and apart of us. A service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of McKoon Funeral Home.
