In Loving Memory of Charles "Chuck" Smith October 16, 1953 - May 24, 2025 Charles "Chuck" Smith, 71, passed away peacefully at his home in Coweta County, Georgia, on May 24, 2025, surrounded by love and the comfort of cherished memories. Born on October 16, 1953, in Norfolk, Virginia, Chuck was raised in Tennessee by his devoted parents, Willis Hansard Smith and Ana Mary Jett-a place and a family that would forever shape his heart and spirit. Chuck spent his professional life in the grocery business, where his quiet strength, tireless work ethic, and warm smile became a steady presence to those who knew him. He approached his work, like his life, with dignity, humility, and a deep sense of purpose. To those closest to him, Chuck was much more than his career-he was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, a loyal brother, and a man of deep passions. He loved his family fiercely, finding joy in the everyday moments shared with those he held dear. His love for his wife, Julie Smith, was steadfast and unwavering-an enduring partnership built on laughter, trust, and shared dreams. Chuck is survived by his beloved wife, Julie Smith; his children Kim (Brad) Gaddy, Tony (Candace) Smith, Mathew (Charlene) Smith, Benjamin (Ashley) Newton, Morgan (Michael) Graff, and Kyle Newton. He was a proud grandfather to 11 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren each of whom brought light to his days and smiles to his heart. He is also survived by his sisters Terry (Tommy) Cowan, Tammy (Steve) Wilson, and Sheila Thomas, and his brothers Doug Smith and Willis Smith. He was preceded in death by his brother, Greg Smith. A proud Tennessean through and through, Chuck was a lifelong, die-hard fan of the Tennessee Volunteers. He cheered them on with unmatched spirit, whether in victory or defeat, embodying the true Volunteer heart. Chuck's mind was a wellspring of curiosity. He loved history, often losing himself in books, films, and conversations that explored the past. Music moved him, and travel delighted him-each journey a chance to discover something new, or perhaps, something beautifully familiar. Though he has left this world, Chuck's legacy remains: in the love he gave, the stories he told, and the lives he touched with quiet kindness and unwavering loyalty. In his honor, we remember not only the days he lived, but the way he lived them-with heart, humor, and a Volunteer's pride. A private service will be held at a later date.
