Cora Lee Gresham

With deepest sorrow and sympathy, Cora Lee Jackson Gresham passed away Thursday, July 4, 2013. She had resided at Savannah Court in Newnan for ten years where she received excellent care and much love from all of the staff. Cora’s family will be eternally grateful, also, to Embracing Hospice of Newnan. Cora Lee Gresham was born July 29, 1918 in Fayette County, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her father Bartow Jackson, mother, Jessie Dell Hill Jackson, brothers; J.C. Jackson, Bruce Jackson; sisters, Pauline Griggs and Carol Batchelor Hurst. She has one surviving sister, Mary Teal McLarin. Her husband, O. Sidney Gresham, whom she married March 30, 1940, died in March 2012, just prior to their 72nd anniversary. The Greshams had two sons, Jerry S. Gresham (Martha Purcell) and Larry Gresham (Rita Byram). Her grandchildren are David (Momoko) Gresham, Neill Gresham, Ashley Gresham (Steve) Stollar, Kandice Gresham (Delmar) Prowant, and Kimberly Gresham (Mike) McDonald. There are six great grandchildren; Sidney Gresham, Charlotte Stollar, Austin & Mitchell Prowant, Kyle & Matthew McDonald. There is a large extended family of nieces and nephews that includes the families of Janie Purcell, Vidalia, Georgia and Frauline Edge, Newnan, Georgia. Cora followed her husband, Sidney Gresham to many locations during his career as a Baptist preacher and missionary. She played vital roles in all these churches. She found time to raise a family, attend LaGrange College, substitute teach and later in life, she owned and operated Lynhaven Beauty Salon. She also became an avid genealogist. She wrote a book on the history of the Long Hill Family of Fayette County, Georgia. She made many quilts for family and churches. “Closed now are the sweet eyes from this world of pain & love…but we trust in God to meet thee again.” Visitation will be Monday, July 8, 2013 at McKoon Funeral Home 38 Jackson St, Newnan, Georgia beginning at 1:00 PM. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home with Rev. Searcy Jackson officiating. Interment will be at Holly Hill Cemetery in Fairburn, Georgia.
