Duane Andrew Stoel

Duane Andrew Stoel, a loving husband, father, and to his grandchildren "Papa D", passed away peacefully in the afternoon hours on Saturday, December 30, 2023. If you knew Duane, then you knew he was from Michigan. He was born on February 13, 1948, in Lansing, MI, one of four children born to the late Andy and Barbara Goodwin Stoel. Along with his parents, Duane is preceded in death by his stepmom Edith Stoel, sister Kay Stoel Engle and her husband Norman, and his grandson River Holcomb. Duane graduated from Clermont High School in 1965. After high school, Duane was drafted into the United States Army. He enlisted on May 23, 1968 and was honorably discharged on December 25, 1969 after serving in the Vietnam War. Duane was an avid sports fan who loved the Detroit Tigers, Lions, Pistons, and Red Wings. The one team that wasn't from Michigan that had Duane's stamp of approval, was his beloved Florida Gators. If they played any sport at Florida and went on to play professionally, Duane wouldn't miss the chance to tell you, "That's a Gator", when he saw them on TV. He also wouldn't miss the chance to share his love for music. From Waylon Jennings to Tom Petty, along with many other rock-n-roll and country artists, he was proud to turn up his favorite songs for all to hear. Duane spent most of his working years in management at Ingles, but his greatest title he held was Papa D. He loved having breakfast at the "Barrel", which is what he and his grandkids would call Cracker Barrel, and he made sure to spoil them any chance he could. Duane had a love for dogs, especially German Shepherds. Earlier this year, Duane lost his dear friend "Chevy", but we are certain he was greeted with a wagging tale and all the licks he could handle. Duane was loved by his family and friends and will be remembered for his kind heart and larger than life laugh. Rest easy Papa D, for the great impact you had on our lives will forever be a ripple effect in the days to come. The funeral service celebrating Duane's life is Friday, January 5, 2024, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson Street, in Newnan, with Rev. Terry Thompkins officiating. Burial will follow the service at Oak Hill Cemetery where military honors will be rendered. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Duane is survived by his beloved wife, Lisa Tutton Stoel; his children, Staci Stoel Kelly (Ryan), Kelli Stoel Holcomb (Danny), Jake White (Sigita), Alissa White Pancake (Andrew), and grandchildren, Walter Kelly, Ward Kelly, Olive Ann Holcomb, Aurora White, Bentley Pancake, Logan Pancake, Gabrielle Nolen, and Audra Nolen. He is also survived by his siblings Charlie Stoel (Sarah) and Ray Stoel, father-in-law Johnny Tutton, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
