Edgar B. Patterson

Edgar Bennett “Pat” Patterson, age 94, of Newnan died Saturday, September 19, 2009 at Newnan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Gay, GA on June 30, 1915 to the late William Homer and Annie Mae Elkins Patterson. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by wife of 53 years, Louise D. Patterson, son, James M. Patterson, daughter-in-law, Joan K. Patterson Tomlin, sisters, Madolyn Patterson Bigham, Ruth Patterson Melnikoff, Brother, James H. Patterson and stepson, Ferrell Edge. Mr. Patterson was a faithful member of Unity Baptist Church for over 60 years where he taught Sunday School for 54 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He worked for Dan Boone Gas and Appliance Company for 27 years where he won many awards for his excellent salesmanship including the award for1987 Salesman of the Year for the Atlanta area. When Mr. Boone died he opened his own business, Patterson Heating and Air Conditioning Company which he sold after two years to Caldwell Heating and Air so he could retire at age 65. He was going to stay two or three weeks and help with transition and ended up working for 10 more years until he retired for good at age 75. After his retirement he joined his wife as a volunteer at Piedmont Newnan Hospital for over a dozen more years. Pat is survived by his stepdaughter, Ann (Wallace) Hardy; grandchildren, Jon Patterson, Jay Patterson, David Hardy, and Elizabeth Hardy; great-grandchildren, J.J. Patterson, Caroline Hardy, and Catherine Hardy; nieces Carolyn (Bobby) Roberts, Marcia (Chris) Jenkins, Patricia Melnikoff; nephews, Bill Bigham, Jerry Bigham and Ronnie Patterson as well as great and great-great nieces and nephews. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.mckoon.com. The family will receive friends and relatives Thursday, September 24 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at McKoon Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation on Thursday, September 24 at 11:00 AM in the McKoon Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Danny Wilson will officiate.
