Eleanor, a beloved daughter, of Newnan, Georgia, born to Ma and Pa Drake, passed away peacefully on November 5th 2023. Her life was a testament to the values of love, care, and immovable dedication to her family and those she met along her journey. Eleanor's role as a mother was unwavering and steadfast. Her son's Dan, Dwight and David were her pride and grandchildren held her heart, and her love for them was boundless. She poured her heart and soul into nurturing her family, always there with a helping hand, sage advice, or a warm embrace. But Eleanor's caring spirit extended beyond her immediate family. For many years, she served as a dedicated caretaker at Mount Vernon Towers, where she tended to the needs of a multitude of elderly couples and individuals . To Eleanor, her clients weren't just clients; they were family. She treated each person she encountered with compassion and respect, leaving a lasting impact on all who were fortunate enough to cross her path. She was known to generously share a few dollars to ensure someone had a meal, sitting with them to share a meal to provide company, and if you were lucky, she would appear at your door with homemade cake delivered by her grandchildren that were dressed as Santa ready to brighten someone's day. She exemplified selflessness and love for all those she encountered. Eleanor embodied what it meant to be a Christian. Her beliefs in Christ were constant, her support of the church was unmatched, and her example of living a Godly life was resolute. If you spent any time with her, you would feel her passion for God and she was not afraid to go tell it on the mountain. Sundays at Eleanor and Lamar's house after church were a cherished tradition. Her Sunday lunches were legendary, with her family as the honored guests, but all were welcome. Her culinary talents were only surpassed by the love and warmth that she poured into every meal, creating unforgettable moments of great conversation and enough laughter to fill an auditorium. Eleanor was a woman of immense courage and staunch faith. Her fearlessness in facing life's challenges was an inspiration to all who knew her. Eleanor was a warrior for her loved ones, always ready to stand up and protect those she held dear. Her family was her life. Eleanor leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to family and friends. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched. We celebrate her life, her love, and the indelible mark she left on this world. Eleanor's passing is a loss to all who had the privilege of knowing her, but her spirit and the values she embodied will continue to inspire us. Her love and legacy endure in the hearts of those she loved. As we bid farewell to Eleanor, we remember her not with tears but with a profound sense of gratitude for the love she shared with Lamar and for the enduring legacy of their remarkable 70-year love story. In Lamar's steadfast devotion to Eleanor, we find the true essence of love's endurance. As he grieves the loss of his beloved wife, may he take comfort in the countless memories they created together, and may those cherished moments be a source of strength and solace in the days ahead. Eleanor is also survived by her beloved sons and their spouses, who were a source of pride and joy throughout her life. Her sons and their partners include Dan and Lori Melson, Dwight and Lesley Melson, and David and Brenda Melson. These families shared a special bond that was a testament to her enduring love and devotion. Finally, her legacy truly continues through her cherished grandchildren, great grandchildren and their respective spouses. Her grandson, Presley Melson, held a special place in her heart, as did Cameron Melson and his loving spouse, Allison, who also brought into the world two precious twin boys, Slaton and Nash. Hayden Melson and his spouse, Jenny Melson, along with their beautiful daughter, Avery, were also an integral part of her life. In addition to them, her grandchildren and an immense source of pride include Campbell Melson, Tyler Melson, Haley Melson, and Mitchell Melson. Additionally, Lindsey Holmes, along with her children; Phenix, Lucas, Kileigh, and Abigale. Jeanine Dillard and her spouse, Nathan Dillard, and their children; Kynlee, Bailey and Casen as well as Danny Sawyer and his spouse, Amy Sawyer, and their children; Barrett and Beckham were all part of the extended family that she cherished. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who she loved dearly through the years. Eleanor leaves behind a blanket of love and fond memories that will continue to be celebrated and cherished by her surviving family members. The funeral service celebrating, honoring, and remembering the life Eleanor so beautifully lived is on Friday, November 10, 2023, at 12:00 PM in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson Street, in Newnan with David Chisholm officiating.
