Elizabeth Joy Cox

Elizabeth Joy Cox was born on March 25, 1950, to William and Elizabeth Hornbuckle in Atlanta, Georgia. She had two older brothers, Bill and Clark. She grew up in Buckhead during segregation and recognized that racism was wrong at a young age, a sociologist at heart. She created and performed plays on her childhood porch. She taught herself how to draw, revealing a God-given gift. She loved animals and caring for her dog Bullet. She would tell the sweetest stories of when she rescued a goat and a baby chick. She participated in Girl Scouts with her mom as troop leader. She achieved academic success with straight A's in high school and testing out of English. Kiwanis named her student of the year, and she received Governor's Honors in art. She ran track and won state in the 500. Elizabeth modeled since childhood and on Rich's runway before leaving to pursue work in New York. Within a year of working in New York, she went straight to the top. Elizabeth worked with and was loved by Wilhelmina (her agent) and designers Halston and Oscar de la Renta, to name a few. She built a successful print and national cover girl career before moving to Los Angeles to study theater and pursue acting, the work she loved. Once in Los Angeles, Elizabeth studied film acting at the Strasberg Institute and studied acting and improvisation at other workshops, like Warner Brothers and the Melrose Theater. She worked with greats like Will Geer. Her dedication and talent landed her national commercial acting roles for Avon, Toyota, Kentucky Fried Chicken, American Dentist Association, Amoco, Myadec Vitamins, Stayfree, and so much more. She worked with renowned directors like Melvin Sokolsky. Elizabeth went on to become a successful Entrepreneur. She started White Buffalo, a successful rolling paper company, with Stanton Freeman. She eventually moved home to Atlanta and started a successful building, designing, and architecture business with Robert Cox. She built new homes and renovated historic homes in Buckhead. She created and produced a television show, the Healthy Home Show, with her husband Robert with such noted guests as Chef Paul Prudhomme, Jack LaLanne, and Paula Dean. She was a published writer and went on to become a realtor before going back to college and art school. She ultimately earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology and graduated magna cum laude from Kennesaw State University. She continued her studies and earned two master's degrees: Social Media Marketing and Educational Technology from Fort Hays University. She started a marketing company with her daughter Chloe', Tap2like. She created educational technology content that she shared on one of the many websites she built. She went on to become a teacher. She taught English to adult learners globally, using her skills in improvisational theater. Elizabeth would start every class by saying, "It's ok to make mistakes in this class. Mistakes are welcome." She always made people feel safe and secure. As a sociologist, she enjoyed learning about her students' cultural traditions, celebrations, and amazing natural wonders around the world. She positively impacted so many students around the world as they pursued their dreams of learning English and advancing their careers. Over the past year, she has been so excited because she started acting again. She is doing the work she loved and originally trained for. She seizes each day with gratitude. She accomplished so much in one lifetime, but most of all she was the best daughter, mother, grandmother, and friend ever. She faithfully took care of her mother with dementia until the very end. She unconditionally loved her five children: Austin, Chloe', Courtney, Shana, and Rion. She loved and helped raise her grandchildren, Leighton and Kingston, like a second mother. Elizabeth loved her other four grandchildren dearly: Cody, Maddy, Miles, and Hendrix. Everything she worked for in life was to provide the best for her children and grandchildren. Elizabeth had a passion for justice and helping people. She was a kind soul that respected all life. She forgave easily. She was strong and never gave up, even in the face of great adversity. She loved her dogs, cats, and horses, caring for them like babies when they fell ill. She was always so positive and grateful. She was witty with a wonderful sense of humor. She loved fashion, beauty, black and white classic movies, Carey Grant, Audrey Hepburn, reading, music, dancing, hiking, running track, lifting weights, and eating right. She had a natural eye for beauty, design, and elegance. Although she is in Heaven, she will not be forgotten here on earth. Her legacy and love will live on forever.
