Frances Elizabeth Sprayberry

Frances “Boots” Dunaway Sprayberry was born September 4, 1936 in Selma, Alabama to the late Cile Wallace Dunaway and the late Johnny William Dunaway. She moved to Newnan in 1945 and later graduated from Newnan High School. She then attended and graduated from Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville. She married her high school sweetheart, Donald “Duck” Sprayberry on June 19, 1957. Throughout their 54 years of marriage, they were active members of Newnan First United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday school and preschool, was an intregral part of the church’s needlepoint guild, and faithfully served on numerous committees throughout her life. They raised their three children in the church and have been overjoyed to watch their eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren be raised in the same church. There was rarely a Sunday that Duck and Boots were not in their usual seats in the balcony. She will most be remembered as an ever-present fixture at Sprayberry’s Barbeque. She greeted every customer with a smile and kind word and had the ability to call most customers by name, making everyone feel welcome and at home. One of the most beloved contributions to the business was her homemade chocolate pie, which due to popular demand, had to be made available on the menu daily. The family would like to extend special thanks to Doctor John Suh and the third floor nursing staff at Crawford Long/Emory Midtown for the wonderful care she received while in the hospital. Also to Sue Harris, Sheila Brown, LaKeisha Gates and Vivian Smith for the compassionate care she received while at home. Her life was built around her devotion to her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends. She leaves behind her legacy through her cooking, sewing and gardening. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her and most of all by the family she leaves behind. She is survived by her husband, Donald Lee Sprayberry, her children, Donald, Jr. and Terri Sprayberry, Stephen and Colleen Sprayberry, and Carol & Fred Hamlin. Her beloved grandchildren, Glenn Sprayberry Hice, Emily and Joey Burg, Carol Lee Sprayberry, Stephen Sprayberry, Jr., Wallace Sprayberry, Sara Penn Hamlin, Mason Hamlin and Carson Hamlin. Her adored great-grandchildren, Luke Hice and Brewer Burg. She is also survived by her aunts and uncles, Sadera and Cecil Moore and Luther and Annice Wallace, sister-in-law, Glenda Dunaway, and niece Paige Lee. She was preceded in death by her brother, Phil Dunaway. The visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5:00 -7:00 at McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson St., Newnan,GA.
