Hermas Wayne Martin

Hermas Wayne Martin, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on September 20, 2025. Wayne was born in Rockwood, Tennessee, on July 17, 1943, to Robert Bruce and Helen Evelyn Martin and grew up running the foothills with siblings Jim Hinds, Lou Ann Martin (Garner), and Alma Lee "Dickie" Martin (Moore). On March 1, 1961, Wayne joined the United States Air Force and proudly served his country, which he greatly loved. Following his honorable service, Wayne dedicated 36 years to Delta Airlines beginning September 20, 1965. After retirement from Delta on December 31, 2001, he took on another role in the airline industry. On January 1, 2002, he gave 10 more years of professional service to World Airways. Wayne is most remembered for the immense love and joy he brought to the people around him. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Stacy Martin (Long), his children: Krista Martin Watkins (Miles), Ashley Martin Cockrell (Jake), Zach Martin (Becca Tobin), and his grandchildren: Buck Watkins, Lulu Watkins, Wyatt Watkins, Kenzie Cockrell, Cash Cockrell, Birdie Cockrell, and Ford Martin. He is also survived by nephews, who he loved like they were his own children: Ronnie Long (Tracey), Steven Long (Summer), Mark Garner, and Preston Garner (Kellie). Wayne also had numerous friends and loved ones who he considered family. He was adored and will be cherished by all who knew him. Wayne will be deeply missed but remembered for his humor, talented craftsmanship, and most importantly, his iconic mustache. He was willing to help anyone in need and no project was too big or too small. He was tough and gentle...he could both "walk among giants" and calm a crying newborn. A memorial service will be held on October 5, 2025, at 4pm at the First Baptist Church of Peachtree City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation or the "Lunch Bunch" at the First Baptist Church of Peachtree City in his honor.
