Jackie Faye Collins

Jackie Faye Johnson Collins, a dear wife, nurturing mother, doting grandmother, sister and friend, began her new life in heaven on the evening of November 24, 2012. Jackie was born in Mitchell County, Georgia and was the daughter of Tommy and Bessie Belle Holton Johnson. At a very early age, Jackie and her family relocated to Ohio to live with relatives. Soon after that, her father passed away in Ohio and Jackie came back to Georgia to be with her sister Sara. She lived with Sara until she grew up and married. She had a son and daughter with her first husband. The family relocated to the Atlanta area seeking better employment. After some years, she and her husband divorced and she was single for a while. In 1980 Jackie and Billy married and were together for the rest of her time on earth. In between marriages, she learned she had to work diligently to raise her two children; often requiring that she maintain three jobs to do that. She never missed a day of work unless she was very ill. She worked at Panasonic for more than 20 years and was awarded a personalized parking spot on more than one occasion for not missing any time from work for a year. Jackie possessed a high spirit and would not hesitate to let you know her opinion on any topic. She loved all of her family very much and was always showing this in her own ways. Regardless of where or how long she and Billy lived in an area, she always considered going to Sara’s as “going home”. Billy commented that she did possess one personal fault. She was an absolute professional shopper and could not find anybody that could keep up with her- so she often went by herself! She deeply loved her mother-in-law Betty Amerson and cherished the time they spent in Atlanta, Orange Beach, AL, or the many times at the casinos in Biloxi. Personal friendships were a high priority. She is survived by her husband William “Billy” Collins; her son, Johnny Palmer and his wife Shelly of Sharpsburg. Her daughter is Dena Smith and her husband Joseph of Hinesville. Joseph is serving at this time in the United States Army in Korea. Paramount in Jackie’s life were her grandsons Dustin Palmer, Corby McElwaney, Mitchell McElwaney, Steven McElwaney and Jonathan Palmer. Her great grandchildren are Logan McElwaney, Jenna McElwaney, Camy McElwaney, Weslynn McElwaney and Chloe Palmer. She was the faithful sister of Sara Ethridge of Pelham and Jean Strickland of San Diego. Her ever present companion was her Yorkie, Mimi Girl. Funeral arrangements are by McKoon Funeral Home at 38 Jackson Street in Newnan where the family will have visitation on Friday evening between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 2:00 PM in the McKoon Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Gary Cunningham officiating.
