Jerry L. Cox

Jerry L. Cox, age 79, passed peacefully, with family by his side, on September 17, 2024. Born on February 3, 1945, in Hapeville, Georgia, he was the cherished son of Charles F. Cox Jr. and Eleanor Edmondson Cox. Jerry grew up in East Point, Georgia, and attended Headland High School, where he formed lifelong friendships. After high school, Jerry began what would become a 52-year career with Delta Airlines. He utilized his outstanding work ethic, combined with his commercial flight ratings, to become an International Ground Pilot Instructor, leaving a lasting impact on those he trained and worked alongside. He also proudly served for six years in the Georgia National Guard, demonstrating his commitment to his country and community. As a long-time member of Newnan First United Methodist Church, he served his church and community loyally and with love, embodying the spirit of Christlike compassion and service. Jerry enjoyed spending time and traveling with his lovely wife of 59 years, Jacqueline H. Cox of Newnan, GA. Together, they created an incredible family and countless memories that their family will cherish forever. In his free time, Jerry was passionate about gardening and yard work and an enthusiastic woodworking hobbyist. He found joy in nurturing his plants and crafting beautiful pieces of furniture and wood carvings, and most importantly, he loved sharing his talents with family and friends. Jerry is survived by his wife, Jacqueline H. Cox; daughters Brandie L. Stephens and husband Derek A. Stephens of Decatur, GA; Kimberlie C. Dietz and husband Jason R. Dietz of Sharpsburg, GA; four beautiful grandchildren, Lindsey M. Dietz and Grant A. Dietz of Sharpsburg, GA, and Mason P. Stephens and Jack H. Stephens of Decatur, GA. He is also survived by his brother, William T. Cox, and wife, Wendy Cox, of Mineral Bluff, GA. He will forever be remembered and treasured by his family. Andrew Chappell will officiate the funeral services, which will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Newnan First United Methodist Church, located at 33 Greenville Street, Newnan, GA. Following the services, a visitation will be in the Anex Hall within the church.
