John Russey Sullivan

John Russey Sullivan, 88, loving husband of Mary Anne Timmons Sullivan, passed away on February 22, 2013 at his home. Born in Atlanta, Georgia on May 11, 1924, he was the son of the late Thomas Quarles and Helen E. Russey Sullivan. Mr. Sullivan was a lifelong cattleman. He was first a dairyman with T. Q. Sullivan and Sons, initially located on Sullivan Road in College Park, Georgia. In the late fifties, the family and farming operation moved to Coweta County. Later in life, John raised beef cattle and hay. Mr. Sullivan was a member of First Baptist church, Newnan where he attended the Earl Stewart Sunday School Class. There he also served on the transportation committee; for many years driving different groups and providing direction of maintenance oversight. Mr. Sullivan was a member of other numerous organizations. Surviving, in addition to his wife of 64 years, are five children, Johnny Sullivan (Kathy) of Tampa, Florida, Bud Sullivan (Pam) of Newnan, Georgia, Nina Sullivan Williams (David) of Greenville, South Carolina, Beth Sullivan (John Ehrensperger) of Decatur, Georgia and Frank Sullivan (Lynne) of Moreland, Georgia; eleven grandchildren, Christy Baskin, Cathryn Sullivan, Camp Sullivan, Russ Williams, Rob Williams, Baxter Williams, Peter Ehrensperger, Will Ehrensperger, Thomas Sullivan, Anna Kate Sullivan and Nina Sullivan; two great-grandchildren, Draven Baskin and T. Q. Sullivan, III; a sister Judy Sullivan Bernal of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Ann Sullivan Henry and a brother, Thomas R. “Smoke” Sullivan. Funeral arrangements are by McKoon Funeral Home at 38 Jackson Street where the family will receive friends on Sunday, February 24, 2013 between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be on Monday, February 25, 2013 at 2:00 PM in the Old Sanctuary of First Baptist Church Newnan and will be officiated by Dr. Jimmy Patterson and Reverend Jerry Walker. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
