Mr. J. Z. Lewis Sr. Joseph Z. Lewis Sr. went to be with The Lord and many other loved ones on April 9, 2014 at his home. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Sybil; children: Martha & Robert Caswell, Violet L. Miles, Richard & Vickie Lewis, Lawrence Lewis, James & Ann Lewis; grandchildren: Brian Lewis, Amanda G. Freeman, Jaydon Metzger, Ragan G. Lewis; brothers: Johnny Lewis, David Lewis, George Lewis, Scott Walters, Will Walters, Charlie Walters Jr., Fred Walters; sisters: Kate Elam, Lovie Sturgeon, Margie, Maureen Wilson. He is survived by his children: Ruth L. Dorsey Goss of Luthersville, Timothy Lewis of Newnan, Joe Lewis Jr. (Lynn) of Jacksonville, AL and Sandra L. (Bob) Estep of Moreland; 25 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. Joe was born October 24, 1917 in Cleburne Co., AL to Mary J. S. and Charley Lewis. He moved with his family to Hogansville, GA in a mule-drawn covered wagon in 1924. He later moved to Coweta Co. where he and his wife Sybil built their home on a section of the "Old Fry Plantation". Joe - also affectionately known as Mr. Joe, Brother Joe, Uncle Joe, Papaw & Daddy - was a life long member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where he served as deacon, teacher, S.S. superintendent & fill-in pastor. In latter years he helped Westside Baptist Church in its infancy serving as teacher & helping to build the current sanctuary. Through the years he became an example of immoveable faith and the dear receiver & dispenser of christian love & affection. Brother Joe was a member of Bigham Masonic Lodge in Moreland for over 60 years where he served as past Grand Master. Mr. Joe was well-known in our region for his excellent tractor mechanic skills. His creative knowledge and frugal approach in various endeavors earned him the nick-name "Mr. Fix-It". This very dear and precious man was well-loved and respected by all who knew him. We have been blessed to have had him in our lives for so long a time. He will always be in our hearts and very greatly missed. Services to celebrate his life will be held at 2 pm Sunday, April 13, 2014 at the McKoon Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Melvin Payne and Alton Midgett officiating. Pallbearers Robin Caswell, Robby Estep, Joe Estep, Greg Lewis, Tyler Huddleston, Michael Lewis, Brad Lewis, Josh Stephens and Timmy Lewis. Graveside service to follow with Masonic tradition and prayer with Bro. Joe Honeycutt. Visitation is Saturday April 12 from 4-8pm. McKoon Funeral Home, Newnan, GA 770-253-4580
