Joyce Ann Edwards

A lifetime of selfless devotion to caring for others came to a gentle end on the afternoon of September 22, 2013 as Joyce Edwards gently passed from her earthly life. Joyce Ann Hatfield was born May 22, 1934 and was one of six children born to the late Lawrence D. and Macel Ann Campbell Hatfield in Knoxville, Tennessee. Although of a distant relationship to the notorious Hatfields of the mountains, Joyce was quite the opposite of the stereotypical nature of her relatives. Joyce was born with a great servant spirit. During her 24 years working with Eye Consultants of Atlanta, she enjoyed meeting and talking to so many people. She was a quick study when it came to discerning the needs of their patients, and immediately set about the process to help them all. In addition, she bonded with the doctors and their families and became a part of their extended families. Nothing, though, took precedence over Joyce’s dedication to her own family. She reveled in all the preparations for family meals and providing the perfect setting for her family’s special occasions. In recent years she enjoyed being a “Nanny” to a special family pet, a Westie named Macey. Joyce was preceded in death by her siblings Jack, Bill and Jim Hatfield. She is survived by her daughter and son by marriage Valorie and Bob Stitt. A special occasion in her life was the thrill of seeing her only granddaughter Lindsey’s marriage to Bryan Melton. Other survivors include her sisters Edna (and David) Strickland of Fayetteville, Linda Marquess of Orlando, FL and sister-in-law, Jan Hatfield of Acworth, GA. She cherished her loving nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements are by McKoon Funeral Home at 38 Jackson Street where the family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 25th beginning at 12:00 noon. The funeral service for Mrs. Edwards will follow in The McKoon Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 PM with Dr. Jimmy D. Patterson officiating. Interment will be in Westminster Memorial Gardens in Peachtree City, GA.
