Laurie Estelle Washington, a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and cherished friend, passed away on December 25, 2025, at the age of 73. She was surrounded by love and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Born on December 4, 1952, in Elizabeth, NJ, Laurie lived a life rooted in faith and family. Laurie was a devoted mother who found great joy in her family. Her love for her children and grandchildren was immeasurable, and she leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and grace that will continue through them. Music was her comfort, her joy, a reflection of her inner strength - whether she was humming along to her favorite songs, listening quietly and reflecting, or sharing melodies that carried memories and meaning. Through music, she expressed her spirit, found peace, and created moments that will forever live in the hearts of her family. Professionally, Laurie built a remarkable career with AT&T, where she worked for more than 20 years as a programmer during the 1980s and 1990s. At a time when few women were in the field, she demonstrated intelligence, dedication, and perseverance, leaving a legacy of dedication, excellence, and perseverance. Laurie leaves to hold dear her memories: her daughter Danielle S. Colon (Fritz Colon Jr); her grandchildren, Antoinne M. Watson and Nicolas D. Colon; her brother Walter R. Davis III, her aunt Rose Wade-Johnson; her nephews Duane Davis and Austin Davis; her nieces Janine Davis and Sophia Davis; and a host of cousins, extended family and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Fannie Davis and Walter R Davis Jr; her son Brian Washington; her brother Keith Davis and sister Deborah Davis-Moore. Her faith reminds us of the familiar poem Footprints in the Sand, which speaks of God's nearness in our most difficult moments. Just as the poem assures us that we are never alone, we take comfort in knowing that when the journey grew heavy, the Lord was carrying her-and now carries her home. As we grieve her passing, we also give thanks for a life lived with purpose, love, and faith. We trust that she has heard the words promised to all who believe: "Well done, good and faithful servant." Her season on this earth has ended, but her love, her example, and her spirit remain forever in our hearts. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing she now rests peacefully in God's eternal embrace, hearing the music of heaven and rejoicing in eternal life. Laurie made her home in Elizabeth, New Jersey, where she lived until 2006. She then moved to Fayetteville, North Carolina, continuing her journey until 2020, when she relocated to Peachtree City, Georgia to be closer to family. There, she remained surrounded by love and care until her passing. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Christian City Nursing Home, whose care, kindness, and dignity provided comfort and support during her final season of life. Their service was a blessing that will not be forgotten. To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven... A time to be born, and a time to die... A time to weep, and a time to laugh; A time to mourn, and a time to dance." - Ecclesiastes 3:1-4 The celebration of life services will be held on Monday, January 5, 2026, at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of McKoon Funeral Home, with Pastor Tim Camp officiating.
