Loretta Jean White

Loretta Jean Bailey White, 79, of Newnan, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 in the home of her loving daughter. She was born January 21, 1947, in Dayton, Ohio, to the late Avery Oliver and Jean Louise Carrington Bailey. She was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Darrell Woodward. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Rev. Harry Ronald White, Jr., her daughters Melissa (Steve) Luton of Newnan, Cathy (Gary) McGraw of Sharpsburg, and her son, Jonathan (Paige) White of Baton Rouge, LA. She was a beloved grandmother to Jimmy (Jennifer) Luton, Ben (Carmen) Luton, Tori Luton, Kynzee Drake, Maggie Drake, Judah White, Eden White, and Olive White. She was a proud great-grandmother to Emma, Ava, Micah Luton, and Sophia Norman-Zuninga. She is also survived by her brother and sister, Dennis (Diane) Bailey; Lois (Art Foster) Woodward; and her brothers and sisters-in-law, Sherrill (Ken) Chambers; Ray (Pamela) White; and Alice White. Her many nieces and nephews (including greats) were a light in her life, and "Unka Retta," as she was affectionately known, always enjoyed keeping up with their lives as much as she could. Due to her father's career as an airline pilot, Loretta grew up in many different areas of the country. When she was in high school, her family settled in Fayette County, GA, and she met the love of her life at Fayette County High School. In addition to being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Loretta worked many jobs in her life, most of which involved investing in children. She was most proud of being a Group Leader for Georgia Baptist Children's Homes and Family Ministries, Inc., and she and Harry touched the lives of so many young people in their time there. Loretta was an avid reader, and she loved spending time with her family. Her children and grandchildren will cherish memories of family vacations at the beach. Loretta was a member of Sargent Baptist Church, and her homegoing service will be held there on July 3, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sargent Baptist Church or to Georgia Baptist Children's Home and Family Ministries, Inc.
