Lorraine O'Brien McMahon

Ms. Lorraine O'Brien McMahon, 81, of Newnan, passed away on Friday, September 20, 2024. She was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late John and Florence O'Brien. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Kevin Sean McMahon, and two sisters, Dorothy O'Brien and Margaret O'Brien. Lorraine graduated from Saint Maria Goretti High School in 1960 and began her career working in the US Navy recruitment center in Philadelphia. She moved to Morrow, GA after her wedding and began a 30-year career working for the United States Army Forces Command (FORSCOM) at Fort McPherson. During her career, she earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees in business administration from Georgia State University and was promoted multiple times eventually retiring as a Program and Budget Analyst. She was incredibly active during her retirement years and loved traveling to visit family and friends in Philadelphia, Virginia, New Jersey, Turkey, Panama, Ireland, Spain, and Greece. Spending time at her condominium on St. Simons Island, GA was another source of great happiness. Lorraine also enjoyed being active in the Coweta County community by playing bridge, volunteering at Piedmont Hospital, serving as a Master Gardener, while also being a dedicated caregiver for her son when his health declined. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 27, 2024 from 12:00 noon until 2:00 pm in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson Street, in Newnan. The funeral service, officiated by Deacon Steve Beers of St. George Catholic Church, will begin at 2:00 pm followed by burial at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Newnan. Lorraine is survived by her daughter Kelly McMahon of Fayetteville; sisters Theresa Concannon of New Jersey, and Clare (Tom) Carberry of Pennsylvania; as well as nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and North Carolina.
