Marcelo Rivera Santiago

Marcelo R. Santiago, Jr., MD, age 73, of Claxton, GA died peacefully at his Newnan residence surrounded by family on Monday, June 6, 2011. He was born December 3, 1937 in Zamboanga, Philippines to the late Marcelo Clemente Santiago & Teodora Rivera Santiago. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brother, Danilo Santiago. He received his Doctor of Medicine Degree in 1962 from Far Eastern University College of Medicine in Manila, Philippines. He did his internship at St. Vincent Charity Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio and completed his residency in surgery at Charleston General Hospital in Charleston, West Virginia. In 1975, he moved to Claxton, GA where he raised his family, opened his practice in General Medicine & Surgery and was affiliated with Evans Memorial Hospital until his retirement in August of 2001. He was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church. The funeral service is Saturday, June 11, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of McKoon Funeral Home, Deacon Steve Swope officiating. The visitation is Saturday morning from 9:00 until 10:45 at McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson St., Newnan, GA 30263.
