Marian Louise Seals

Marian Louise Chapman Seals of Newnan, a woman of faith who loved our Lord Jesus Christ, passed away on March 28, 2019. She was born on July 26, 1938 and raised in East Point, Georgia, the daughter of Olin Pierce Chapman, Sr. and Frances Marian Hopkins. Known by many as Mimi, she loved her family, friends and neighbors. A Master Gardner, she could often be found working in her beautiful yard at Newnan Pines or working alongside her Master Gardner friends and selling Christmas wreaths or beautifying the hanging baskets in downtown Newnan. One of her great joys in life was the fellowship she enjoyed in the Polly Crowley Sunday School Class at Newnan First United Methodist Church. Always looking to serve others through her kind spirit, she organized activities throughout the year to foster friendships in her Sunday School class. A fun-loving friend and neighbor, Mimi took great delight in her Newnan family of friends and also her loyal companion, her beloved little poodle, Gracie. Whether she was enjoying time with her lady friends or having the neighborhood children over for cookies and ice cream, Mimi cherished every moment of life. Marian and her first husband, Lamar Seals, had two children, Lorri Swords and Lou Seals. Mimi's greatest love was her four grandchildren, and she never missed an opportunity to be with each of them in whatever they were doing. She spent countless hours with them and relished her time with each grandchild, all of whom now have memories of their Mimi that they will forever cherish. Mimi was a wonderful mother who imparted the things of the Lord to her family, and "they shall rise up and call her blessed" (Proverbs 31:28). She was a good and faithful friend and chose to see only the good in people, believing that each one had a purpose, a calling and a gifting from our creator. She will be missed. She has fought the good fight. She has finished the race. She has kept the faith (II Timothy 4:7). In 2013, Marian married her LaGrange College classmate, Jimmy Cross, with whom she enjoyed a wonderful renewed courtship that led to marriage. Survivors include her daughter, Lorri Swords and her husband Dr. Phillip Swords; son, Lou Seals; sister, Cathy Hansard and her husband Michael Hansard; grandchildren, Connor Chapman Swords, Annie Glenn Swords, Emmy Rose Swords and Reeves Holbrook Swords; niece, Jamie Hansard Hinson and her husband Hayes and nephew, Trevor Hansard and his wife Kimberly Hansard. The family wishes to thank Mimi's personal caregivers, Andrea McCray and Chiquita Davis, as well as all the loving staff and caregivers at Wesley Woods. The family would also like to thank the employees of Kindred Hospice for their comfort and care.
