Martha Frances West

Mrs. Martha Frances Overby West, age 81, of Newnan, Ga, completed her life’s journey on September 18, 2014, secure in the knowledge that she would spend eternity with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. A native of Coweta County, she was born July 14, 1933, a daughter of the late Duke Abraham Overby and Mattie Glazier Overby. In 1955, she married the love of her life, William Carter West, Sr., who preceded her in death. In 1953, she earned her degree in nursing from the Georgia Baptist School of Nursing. She began her career in Akin, SC and then moved back to Georgia in 1957. At the time of her retirement, she had dedicated over 35 years at Newnan Hospital, where she was the Charge Nurse over ICU. She was a Godly Christian woman who devoted her life to her family. She leaves behind a powerful legacy of Godly love, to all who knew and adored her. She served her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, with all of her heart and soul. Her compassion to love everyone unconditionally personified a Christ-like example of the Godly woman she strived to be. She was a long term member of Trinity Baptist Church and attended Mills Chapel Baptist Church with her children. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Surviving are her children, William Carter (Charisse) West, Jr., George Steven (Susan) West, Rena West (Wayne) Walker, Duke Bradley West, Robert Vinson (Melissa) West, and Alicia West (Greg) Patterson. Her grandchildren, Duke Bradley (Meredith) West, Jr., Kevin Wayne (Heather) Walker, Steven Joshua West, Whitney Walker (Joshua) Bishop, Emily Frances Patterson, Mattie Elizabeth West, Rachel Carol Patterson, William Carter “Liam” West, III, and William Alexander West. Her great-grandchildren are Jonah Graham West, Lorelai Clara Walker, Clayton Reid West, Jude Taylor West, and Sawyer William Walker. There is an extended family of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Duke Bradley West, Jr., Kevin Wayne Walker, Steven Joshua West, William Carter “Liam” West, III, William Alexander West and Joshua Clinton Thompson. Funeral arrangements are by McKoon Funeral Home at 38 Jackson Street in Newnan where the family will receive friends on Monday, September 22nd evening from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home with Reverend Brady West and Reverend Jeff Smith officiating.
