Mary Ann Compton, age 83, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2026. Born on September 16, 1942, in Cartersville, Georgia, Mary Ann lived a life filled with laughter, friendship, dedication, and love. Mary Ann was truly the life of the party. Her vibrant personality, quick wit, and warm heart brought joy to everyone fortunate enough to know her. She never met a stranger and had a remarkable ability to make people feel welcomed and loved. She was a devoted mother to her loving son, Gene Compton, and cherished the many special relationships she shared with her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephew. She was also blessed with the unwavering friendship of Linda Proctor, her best friend of more than 60 years. Together they shared a lifetime of memories, laughter, and love. Bowling was more than a hobby for Mary Ann-it was a passion, a commitment, and a way of life. She dedicated 34 years of service to the Georgia State Bowling Association and was honored with induction into the Georgia State Bowling Association Hall of Fame in recognition of her dedication and contributions to the sport. Mary Ann also proudly attended the Women's National Championship Tournament for 37 consecutive years, a testament to her love of bowling and the lifelong friendships she built through the game. Her bowling family became an extension of her own family, and she treasured every memory made both on and off the lanes. Mary Ann found happiness in the simple things that made life beautiful. She adored her dogs, loved collecting and wearing jewelry, and had a special fondness for babies. Her favorite color was red, and yellow roses always brought a smile to her face. Mary Ann's legacy is one of kindness, loyalty, laughter, and friendship. She touched countless lives through her generosity, spirited personality, and genuine love for others. While her presence will be deeply missed, the memories she created and the love she shared will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She is survived by her son, Gene Compton; her lifelong best friend, Linda Proctor; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephew; and her beloved bowling family and friends. Mary Ann will be laid to rest at Oakhill Cemetery in Cartersville, Georgia, alongside her beloved mother and grandmother, where she will remain forever close to the family she loved so dearly. A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Mary Ann's spirit, laughter, and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her. Family will receive friends on Monday, June 22, 2026 from 6 - 8 pm at McKoon Funeral Home & Crematory, 38 Jackson St., Newnan, GA 30263. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at 11:00 am in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial will be on Tuesday at 3:00 pm in Oak Hill Cemetery, 319 N.
