Mary "JoAnn" Joan Cammons

JoAnn Barnes Cammons, in an aura of a sweet spirit, left her earthly cares behind and joined others who had gone before her to a heavenly home of eternal joy. Illnesses had made her last years very trying, so she was able to achieve that perfect healing from the God she loved and served. JoAnn was born August 10, 1934 in Newnan and was the daughter of the late William Jefferson and Lois Estelle Lassetter Barnes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Thomas Edward Cammons and a sister, Diane Barnes Houston. She bravely dealt with the loss of her son-in-law Roger Olmstead and her second great grandchild, Emma Olmstead. JoAnn was a woman who found early in life that her best efforts should be directed in being a nurturing mother, a wise manager of her household, and a supportive wife. These were roles in which she excelled. Those who knew her and loved her never had to have any doubt about where she stood on any issue that came up – she would explain in words that left no doubt! That being said, she was a fun loving person and enjoyed a good joke or a prank – if she was not the victim. She was the kind of person who could survive lung surgery and in a few weeks dance with all the firemen that attended her grandson’s wedding! Later in life she took on a new role as the doting grandmother and great grandmother. She was a member of First Christian Church. Surviving her are her children, Debbie Cammons Olmtsead; Scott Cammons and Cheryl. She cherished her grandchildren Julie (and Mike) Matthews, Jared (and Rebecca) Olmstead and Hunter Jones. She would beam at the sight of those great grandchildren Briley Matthews and the twin boys Blaine and Brock Olmstead. Also surviving is her brother, William C. “Buddy” Barnes. Funeral arrangements are by McKoon Funeral Home at 38 Jackson Street where the visitation is Monday evening between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM. The funeral service is Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the McKoon Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Carl Greene officiating. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
