Melvin E. Minix

Mr. Melvin Ellis Minix, born on June 20, 1942, of Sharpsburg, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2024. There to greet him alongside his Heavenly Father were his parents, John Ellis Minix and Virginia Minix Moran, his brother, Glenn Minix, and dear friend, Milton Atwood. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Linda Minix; his children Donna (Tim) Hammett, Mike Minix, and Leslie Minix, who lovingly cared for him in his final months; his grandchildren Emily (Matt) Evans, Kerri (Nick) Epstein, Jonathan (Lauren) Minix, and Joanna Minix; Great grandchildren Kate, Sadie, Rae, Hudson, Caroline, John, Claire, Hynslee, and Collins; his sisters Pat (Leroy) Moody and June Minix; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Melvin married Linda Gasaway on Valentine's Day of 1963. They raised their three children in Sharpsburg on Minix Road. He loved attending and serving in church over the years, most recently at White Oak First Baptist Church. He had his own tile company, Melvin Minix Tile Company, and made many friends along the way. He loved taking the family on trips, especially to the mountain house in Hiawassee, Georgia. He loved spending time with his family and cherished any time everyone could be together. In retirement, He loved going out to eat with Linda and visiting friends and family. He enjoyed playing softball and basketball, and cheering for the Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldogs. He could often be found going on adventures with Milton, having breakfast with the Bojangles breakfast club, and tending to his yard, pond, and cows. Melvin truly loved God and people. You couldn't go anywhere with him without him seeing someone he knew. He was known for his uniform of overalls, his love of "giving you a hard time", his jokes, and his loyalty. The family would also like to offer their heartfelt appreciation to Nurse Nancy and CNA Jennifer of Sacred Journey Hospice for providing such compassionate, loving care. In memory of Melvin's love of overalls, the family invites everyone to attend the funeral in casual attire, overalls and blue jeans welcome! The funeral service celebrating Melvin's life is Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson Street, in Newnan, with Pastor Steve Clark and Rev. Tim Hammett officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rock Springs Baptist Church in Sharpsburg.
