Nellie Cox

Nellie Young Cox 4/29/1912 - 6/28/2011 Nellie Young Cox, age 99, of Newnan, GA passed away on June 28, 2011 at Wesley Woods of Newnan. She was born in Atlanta, GA on April 29, 1912 to the late Jennie Sue Martin Young and Joe Hugh Young of Moreland, GA. Nellie grew up in Moreland and Grantville, where she attended primary school. She became a member of the Moreland United Methodist Church in 1924 and was a life-long member. She graduated from high school in Terra Ceia, FL and attended business school in Atlanta, GA. She began working for the Social Security Administration in Washington, DC shortly after that agency was established. She later worked for the IRS in Albuquerque, NM. She married Millard Cox in 1938 and after the war they moved to New Mexico, where Nellie found the climate and culture stimulating and fascinating. Nellie loved to wear beautiful clothing and was an excellent seamstress. She loved flowers and created prize winning floral arrangements. She loved to collect dolls, she loved pets, she loved shopping and she loved to play bingo. Nellie was wonderful with children and loved to be around them, she often took child-care positions in her later years. Nellie survived all of her siblings, Martin Young of SC, Virginia Holland of Newnan, Dorothy Vosquil of AZ, and Joe Roy Young of FL. Nellie is survived by daughter, Salella Marshall of Santa Fe, NM; son, Millard Cox of Ripton, VT; grandsons, Frank Marshall of Raeford, NC, Thaddeus Cox of Washington, DC, Alexander Cox of Ripton, VT; great-grandchildren, Corey, Lauren, and Tyler Marshall of Raeford, NC; nieces and nephews, Margaret Anderson of SC, Martin B. Young of TX, Susan Saslow of AZ, Roger Vosquil of WI, and Ellen Ellsworth of AZ. Condolences may be expressed online at www.mckoon.com. The memorial service for Nellie Cox is Sunday, July 3, 2011at 4:00 PM in the Chapel of McKoon Funeral Home, Rev. Dr. David Brackman officiating. The visitation is from 3:00 until service time.
