Oren George Hudson

Mr. Oren George Hudson, known affectionately as "Dandy", age 92, of Indian Mound, TN and formerly of Newnan, GA, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2008 at his home. Dandy, as he was known to his family, is survived by his wife Anne B. Hudson of Indian Mound, TN; a son Clark Hudson and his wife Corille of Newnan, GA; a daughter Marie Piper and her husband Terry of Suches, GA; a son Joe Hudson and his wife Susie of Dadeville, AL; a brother Dewain Hudson of Lilburn, GA; stepchildren Gayle Webb of Stockbridge, GA; Judy Plumlee of St. Joe, MO; Wallace Batchelor and Wanda Carroll both of Newnan, GA; Gerita Girndt of Indian Mound, TN; and John Batchelor of Guatemala. Dandy also has 24 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his first wife Catherine Smith Hudson, two brothers, and two sisters. Born July 2, 1915, in Douglas County, GA, Dandy attended school in Newton County, GA and moved to Coweta County in 1938. He played semi-pro organized baseball from 1933 until 1945 and from 1947 until 1955. He also served as a World War II Veteran in the Pacific from 1945 until 1946. He was an avid fisherman and was instrumental in organizing the Little League in Coweta County. He both coached and umpired Little League and Pony League baseball from 1960 until 1981 and coached Midget football during the 1960‘s and 1970‘s. He received a special recognition award from the Newnan Booster Club in 1985 for his contribution to Newnan and Coweta County Sports for over 25 years. In addition to assisting with the writing of the charter for church league softball, he also played church league senior softball until 1989 (age 74). He retired from the U. S. Post Office as a rural letter carrier. His faith was a very important part of his life, and he was a charter member of Unity Baptist Church in Newnan, GA. Most recently he was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Dover, TN. Funeral arrangements are by McKoon Funeral Home at 38 Jackson Street in Newnan where the visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Saturday, April 5, 2008. The funeral service will be Sunday, April 6, 2008 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home with Dr. Paul Dennis officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
