Phillip Earl Fisher

Phil E. Fisher, age 82, passed away September 6, 2011 at Piedmont Fayette Hospital in Fayetteville, GA after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He is survived by wife of sixty-one years, Barbara Fisher of Sharpsburg, GA; daughters, Barbara Wolfe & her husband Andy of Sharpsburg, GA, Jayne Fisher of Colorado Springs, CO; eight grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and members of extended family. He was born February 23, 1929 in Burbank, OK to the late Walter & Maggie Fisher. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Geraldine Murray and Doris Park. He lived in Oklahoma City, OK and was interested in aviation from an early age. He joined the United States Navy and was stationed aboard several aircraft carriers, going to many ports of call. After completing his duty in the service, he graduated from Oklahoma University with his Bachelor’s Degree as an Aeronautical Engineer. He began his career working for General Dynamics in Fort Worth, TX. It was during these years that Phil trusted Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord at Billy Graham Crusade in Oklahoma City, OK. Phil was on the designing teams for the B-58, F-111, C-5A and later, the NASA Space Shuttle’s External Tank in New Orleans, LA. He retired from engineering in 1992 and moved back to Colorado Springs, CO where he worked and retired from Simpich Character Dolls. He enjoyed making improvements to their mountain cabin in Chipita Park, CO which he eventually winterized. He loved taking long walks with their two Labrador Retrievers in the surrounding foothills. During the 1960s, Phil and his family became involved with The Navigators Christian Organization, based in Colorado Springs, CO. He eventually moved to the Southeast coast to live and minister to military men at various bases, while at the same time, continuing his engineering interests. Many enduring friendships were made through these years. Mr. Fisher was a resident of Christian City Convalescent Center in Union City, GA since 2009. He thoroughly enjoyed making new friends with the staff and residents. The family wishes to convey their deepest appreciation for the love and care shown to Phil during these difficult years of his life. The memorial service was Friday, September 09, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Welcome Center Chapel at Christian City, Chaplain Carl Ryden officiated. An additional memorial will be held at a later date in Colorado Springs, CO with interment to follow at Peyton Cemetery in Peyton, CO.
