Randall "Randy" Thomas Davis

Randall Thomas Davis, age 66, passed away March 11, 2017 with his family at Navicent Health Medical Center of Macon. He was born in Birmingham, AL on April 16, 1950 to the late Reuben Thomas Hill and Gwendolyn Davis Hill. He was adopted by his maternal grandparents the late Lillian Poole Davis and Thomas Franklin Davis at age 8. “Randy” as he was called grew up in Clanton, Alabama on a small farm with his sister and grandparents. He played football, basketball and baseball in high school and graduated from Isabella High school in 1967. He was drafted into the Army in 1970 and was a Morse code interceptor with the highest crypto security clearance. After being discharged, he worked at a local grocery store and was the produce manager there. He started working for South Central Bell Company (Bellsouth) a few years later and while there earned an Associate’s Degree at Southern Union State Community College in Opelika, Alabama. Through Bellsouth, Randy was involved and passionate about volunteering with the Telephone Pioneers. Through the Pioneers, Randy and his family helped raise money for organizations like Make-A-Wish, Habitat for Humanity, and others. Randy and the Pioneers built Camp Pioneer used by the Sheriffs Youth Home in Troup County. They also volunteered at the 1996 Paralympic games and the Bellsouth Classic Golf tournaments, raising money by cooking hundreds of hamburgers and hotdogs. He served as Chapter president and vice-president twice for the Tri-County group of the Pioneers. He worked with Habitat for Humanity for many years, helping to coordinate house builds around metro Atlanta and Coweta County. He served on the board of directors for Newnan Coweta Habitat for Humanity in the late 1990s and volunteered at the local Habitat Restore. Randy also volunteered with his wife Becky at the USO at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport, bringing food and greeting incoming servicemen and women as they came to Atlanta. When not volunteering his time and skills, Randy loved playing cards with and fixing good food for his family. He was a huge Auburn Tigers fan, always had a garden where he grew vegetables, hunted, and enjoyed watching Westerns and crime dramas on TV with his wife and pets beside him. Randy and his wife Becky were members of Emory Chapel United Methodist Church of Newnan. Randy is survived by his wife of 34 years, Rebecca Koger Davis, his daughters, Rachel Davis Peeler of Dallas, TX, and Samantha Davis Clark of Newnan, GA, his sister and brother-in-law Deborah Davis Jones and Jeffrey Jones of Clanton, AL, his niece Jennifer Jones of Manassas, VA and nephew Glenn Jones of Clanton, AL; his grandchildren Madison Peeler, Cody Peeler, and Wyatt Peeler of Tennessee, and Daniel Motley of Columbus, GA. His friends and family will greatly miss his big, bossy “Type-A” personality and his generous spirit. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.mckoon.com.
