Rena Rowe McMichael

Rena McMichael, 82, of Newnan, Georgia, passed away on March 4th, 2024, at her home surrounded by family. She was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia on February 1st and given 2 to 3 weeks to live. In true Rena fashion, she continued living weeks past that date, happily visiting with her many friends for almost a month while awaiting her appointment with God. Rena was born in Luthersville, GA, to Robert and Nellie Rowe. At 19, she met her husband, David McMichael, the love of her life. They were married for 49 years and had two sons who were born on the same day, 5 years apart. Rena spent her life serving others and gave her time generously, helping where she was needed. She taught 3-year-olds at First Baptist Newnan in the 70s and volunteered at First Baptist in Albany, Georgia and Mount Zion Baptist in Madison, Alabama. When her travels brought her back to Newnan 30 years ago, she continued to serve through the Bereavement Committee at First Baptist Newnan and the O.A House, a ministry for people in financial need. There Rena found joy in simply talking to people and helping them find clothes. She volunteered at Western Elementary, helping kindergarteners learn to read and making gift baskets for teachers. If you were sick or just feeling bad, you could always count on her special brownies or a pecan pie. Over the last few years, she quietly focused on writing and sending encouraging cards, and cheering shut-ins with visits and treats. Rena was 100% mama. She was dedicated to raising her two boys. She supported her husband while he worked to make a better life for the family and his career moved them throughout the South. She worked at Lee King Pharmacy, Nut Tree Pecan Company, and APS Plumbing Supply, keeping many people straight and doing right. She always wanted you to keep your affairs in order and wasn't shy about reminding you that everything has a place, so put it back where it goes! Rena is survived by her sons, Scott (Ann) McMichael of Huntsville, Alabama, Stan (Sherry) McMichael of Newnan, Georgia, granddaughters Beverly (Aaron) Christian and Dinara McMichael, and sister Robbie Hayes. She was preceded in death by her husband David McMichael. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 8th, 2024 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Newnan with L.C. Lane officiating. A visitation is scheduled at the church one hour before the service at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Newnan, Georgia.
