Richard "Ricky" Lee Marchman

Richard Lee Marchman was born on Friday, August 28, 1953, at Newnan Hospital to the late Homer Lee and Effie Zella Marchman. He was the eighth of nine children. Ricky always said that he did not have much of what so many people consider to be important in this life, but he always knew he was loved. That belief would carry through for all the days of his life and became even more important in his later years. Ricky went to his heavenly home on Saturday, May 23, in the comforting presence of his loved ones. The fact that this was only a temporary separation was Ricky's absolute belief and a relief to his family that he would receive his perfect healing. Ricky graduated from Newnan High School in 1971 and went on to graduate from the University of West Georgia in 1975. He met his wife, Deborah, on Labor Day while working at the Powers Crossroads Arts & Crafts Festival in 1979. They married in 1980. Theirs was a wonderful love story that would continue for 46 years. The love they forged would carry them through some difficult times as Ricky dealt with health issues in the later years of their marriage. The fact he and Deborah loved God first and each other unconditionally, was the force that kept them buoyed when others might give in to the trials of life and illness. They were blessed with three children. Ricky worked his entire career for Allstate Insurance Company until his retirement in 2010. Ricky's faith was firmly grounded as a member of First Baptist Church of Newnan for the last thirty-five years. Ricky was blessed with a beautiful tenor voice and honored the God who created him by being a part of the church choir. He loved listening to music and enjoyed singing with his family. He was famous for his participation in the Peachtree Road Race and ran in it for 30 years. Preceding him in death were five of his siblings, father-in law, and mother-in-law (Elmer and Katherine Kendall). As difficult as it was for his family to let him answer God's call, they are, at the same time, thankful to recall the many great memories they shared in being a part of his life. Ricky was blessed with an earthly angel, his wife Deborah Kendall Marchman. Ricky was a steadfast role model for his children, Kendall (Darbie) Marchman of Athens, GA, Katy (Steven) Sosebee of Hogansville, GA, and Abigail (Andy Ellefsen) Strickland of Newnan. No grandfather could be prouder than he was of his four adoring grandchildren, Teegan Mae Sosebee, Parker Miles Sosebee, Blair James Ellefsen, and Brynlee Ann Ellefsen. Also surviving are his siblings Derrell Marchman, Joel Marchman, and Steve Marchman. Family and friends will gather to share memories, tell stories (some more true than others) on Tuesday May 26th beginning at 5:00 until 7:00 PM at The Commonwealth at Calumet Clubhouse, 4700 Commonwealth Circle in Newnan. The service to honor his life will be on Wednesday, May 27th at 11:00 AM in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church. Flowers are welcomed. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all of them also that love His appearing." Ricky Marchman has truly claimed his reward because he built his life as a servant of the God who created him. He was loved deeply by all of those he touched in his almost 73 years.
