Robert Humber Bickerstaff

September 16, 2016 was a day that saw the first hints of the fall season approaching. It was also the day that the seasons of life held a dramatic change for Robert Humber Bickerstaff, Jr. It was on this day that God in His infinite wisdom saw that Bob had fought the good fight with his three-year battle with cancer, he had kept the faith and it was time to claim that perfect healing that only God could give. Bob was born in Albany, Georgia on November 14, 1946 to the late Robert H. and Ruth Norris Bickerstaff. He would attend the Lyman Ward Military Academy and subsequently graduate as the class valedictorian. He continued his education at The University of Georgia and graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Bob embarked on a thirty-year career with The Carpenter Company as a sales representative – a job he thoroughly enjoyed. Bob was tenacious and perseverant. These qualities would enable not only a good career in business, but would also sustain him through the ups and downs of being a diehard Georgia Bulldog fan. Bob’s high priority in life would ultimately be his love for his family and his Creator. His life is lovingly cherished by his wife Diane Deverick Bickerstaff. He led by example in the lives of his children Kimberly Woodard and her husband Robert; Robert H. Bickerstaff III and his wife Kristen. He gladly welcomed into his life Diane’s children Kari Thornton and her husband Robert and Jamie Mitchell. Bob’s most important title later in life would be that of grandfather to his nine wonderful, talented and amazing grandchildren Rylee, Landen and Walker Woodard, Brett and Kyleigh Bickerstaff, Ella, Amelia and John Robert Thornton and Caroline Mitchell. He was a loyal brother to his siblings Bonnie Bickerstaff and William Bickerstaff. The good and decent life of Bob Bickerstaff will be remembered on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 in a service to be held at 2:00 PM in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home to be led by his friend Reverend Don Helms.
