Sandra Tanner Robertson

Sandra Lee Tanner Robertson, 83, of Newnan (Raymond), Georgia, passed away peacefully at her home on January 25, 2024. Sandra was born in Lithonia, Georgia on July 8, 1940, to the late Tomps Myron and Helen Loree Tanner. During her youth in Lithonia, Sandra was a Girl Scout and enjoyed taking dance lessons. After graduating from Southwest High School in 1958, she attended Business School before pursuing a career in the Insurance field. In 1961, Sandra married her first husband, Gus Murray, and moved to Mississippi where she started her own family and found a new passion as a mother and homemaker. In the early 1970's, Sandra relocated to Moreland, Georgia with her children to be closer to her extended family. Sandra cared deeply for her family, friends, and strangers, alike. Her greatest joy in life was helping and providing for others. She worked as a devoted caregiver for many years and spent her free time with her children, parents, and the family and friends she loved so much. In 1998, Sandra married Leroy Robertson. They loved traveling together - especially to Horseshoe Beach, Florida where they spent their time fishing. They planted a garden every Spring, and they enjoyed cooking and canning the fruits and vegetables of their labor. Sandra always made sure to store some extra cans for her friends and family to enjoy. Sandra always had a bright mind - one she loved using for jigsaw puzzles, word searches, Scrabble, and playing Mahjong on the computer. She had a great sense of humor and loved sharing jokes and laughs with everyone. She liked attending church and the fellowship that it brought her. She also enjoyed shopping, arts & crafts, taking afternoon car rides, and various activities at the senior center. She loved her entire family and was especially proud of her children and grandchildren. It brought her great joy to spend time with them and watch them grow. She was a very loving, caring, and special lady to all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband - Samuel Leroy Robertson, son-in-law - John Thomas Barnett, stepson - Gary Wayne Robertson, and grandson - Matthew Scott Murray. She is survived by her daughter Rhonda Barnett, son Thomas (Jenny) Murray, son Daniel (Christine) Murray, stepson Larry (Janet) Robertson, stepdaughter-in-law Carol Robertson and her husband Joe Bailey, sister Pamela (Marty) Vance, brother Kevin (Margaret) Tanner. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to express appreciation to Mary Hernandez and everyone at Sacred Journey Hospice who helped to care for Sandra. A Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at 1:30 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:00 PM at Mt. Gilead Methodist Church in Sharpsburg. A private Interment will follow at the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church, 2651 E. Hwy. 16, Sharpsburg, GA 30277.
