Vickie Louise Davis

When Vickie Davis said “Good night,” to her dear husband John on Thursday evening, she was excited about yet another trip they were planning to Texas. Vickie loved travelling and sightseeing. Before morning, though, she would embark on the most exciting adventure one could imagine and see sights that no one in this world can envision. For, it was during her sleep, that the gentle angels would come down from heaven and carry her gently into the presence of God and all the majesty of her life eternal. Vickie Louise Moon Davis began her time in this world on October 23, 1951 when she was born at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta. She was one of six daughters and one son born to the late Floyd Lonzo and Sadie Gertrude Hewatt Moon. She was preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings. She lived in Gwinnett County for most of her younger years and graduated from South Gwinnett High School. She became pen pals with one of her brother’s Air Force buddies and in 1969, after being swept off her feet by that dashing young man, she married John Wayne Davis. The next 47 years would be an adventure in love, travel and family. Life, for Vickie, was made complete by the birth of her son John Timothy Davis. Vickie, however, was a lady with a lot of love to share. The writer C. S. Lewis said “Children are not a distraction from more important work. They are the most important Work”. Oh, and how very much Vickie believed this. This lady who would come to be known as “Pipi”, would be most at home when she was surrounded by children. She was willing babysitter for any and every person needing one. At times, her house would resemble a day camp. Some might say she overdid it, but she was truly in her element when she was helping others, whether it be babysitting or volunteering at Wesley Woods. She was a tender, gentle soul with a profound servant spirit. In addition to her husband and son, she is survived by her mother-in-law Allilee Davis, her sister-in-law Janet Davis Ellis, a brother-in-law Pat Davis and his wife Connie. Not having a birth daughter to care for, her niece Janet Lee Whaley and granddaughter April Rogers and their families just made life complete for her. Funeral arrangements are by McKoon Funeral Home at 38 Jackson Street where the family welcomes guests on Sunday evening between 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. A service to commemorate her life will be on Monday, June 20, 2016 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home led by Reverend John Freeland and Reverend Dan McFarland.
