Vivienne Hambrick

Vivienne Tyler Johnston Hambrick Mrs. Hambrick was born in Waynesboro, Georgia on March 7, 1922 to the late Mary Anne Tyler Johnston and James Jesse Johnston. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Thomas Herman Hambrick, two sisters, Anne Johnston Herrington and Beverly Johnston Verdery, and one brother Jesse Johnston. Mrs. Hambrick was a graduate of Waynesboro High School, Tift College, Piedmont Hospital Laboratory, West Georgia College, and Georgia State University. Her early career included working as a registered medical technologist (A.S.C.P.) at hospitals in Atlanta, Griffin, and Newnan. After returning to college she began her teaching career. She taught eighth grade science in the Newnan public schools for 26 years. Mrs. Hambrick’s innovative classroom lessons nurtured a love of science in her classrooms. Mrs. Hambrick was a faithful member of Newnan First United Methodist Church. She continued to share her love of Christ and learning by teaching adult and children’s Sunday school classes, Women’s missionary circles, and many study series. She was a member of the Veatch-Nixon Sunday School class. Mrs. Hambrick spent a lifetime caring for family and friends and contributing to her community. Mrs. Hambrick was very active in volunteering many hours as a “Pink Lady” for Newnan Piedmont Hospital, Senior Friends, Pilot Club, Daughters of Colonies, DAR, ADK, and many other organizations. Mrs. Hambrick is survived by her children, Mary Anne Hambrick Lockard (John) of Columbia S.C., Dr. Lee Hambrick (Anthony Riggins) of Oakland, CA, and Tyler Hambrick (Lisa) of Newnan, GA. She is also survived by grandchildren, Wes Lockard, Mike Lockard (Shannon), Katie Jayne (Jot), Jennifer Dunn (Chris), and Johnathan Hambrick (Jamie), and Tiffany Bartram (Will), and Brian Phillips (Angie), ten great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was generous and loving and will be forever missed by those she loved. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 16, 2015 from noon until 1:45 at McKoon funeral Home, 38 Jackson St., Newnan, GA. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 PM at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Newnan with Rev. Gary Parrish and Rev. Sharon Edgar officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Newnan First United Methodist Church, 33 Greenville St., Newnan, GA 30263.
