David Kenneth Diget, II

David left this world and walked off with Jesus on May 16, 2024 after a 4 year battle with Lymphoma and Metastatic Melanoma. During this time, he had many surgeries and procedures, many extended hospital stays, but also he lived life to the fullest every time he was able. He never accepted weakness and continued to push through for the people he loved most. David is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Dee Benson Diget, a beloved daughter Dusty Lane Burnham and husband Matt Burnham (Senoia), a beloved son Tanner Lee Diget and his sweet girlfriend Cheyenne Mix, whom David loved dearly (Whitesburg), a beloved daughter Chelsea Robyn Ivey and her husband Ryan, Granddaughter Kristen and Grandson Daniel (Fayetteville), and an estranged daughter whom he never stopped loving Haley Elizabeth Diget. He was preceded in death by his daughter Amber Leigh Diget 6/24/97-9/24/97. David was born in Portage, Michigan in 1959 to parents Marjorie May Diget Johnson and David Kenneth Diget, Sr. (Pat). Growing up, David was a star swimmer who holds records that still stand to this day. He moved to Georgia in 1980 and continued is profession in the autobody repair industry. Upon meeting his wife, David entered the ambulance manufacturing world in which he worked tirelessly for over 25 years until his cancer disabled him. Despite his Northern beginnings, he happily traded his snow boots for cowboy boots and reached his true calling as a country boy with his favorite pastime being working on his tractor. He had a saying that he loved: "I wasn't born in the South, but I got here as quick as I could!" David enjoyed boating, jet skiing, trips to the lake, trips to the beach, and spending time with his Georgia family including his beloved brothers-in-law Chance Benson (Kelly) and Mark Benson (Jennifer), and his parents-in-law Fred and Viki Benson of Athens, Ga. So many cherished memories were made and remain held dear. For many years he was a rodeo dad and that was a time that he treasured watching Dusty barrel race. He packed the trailer, hauled us everywhere, grilled cookouts and made fabulous breakfast spreads for our barrel racing friends. He set barrels, drove the tractor, took photos of all the kids, videos of performances, and sweated his butt off for hours on end just to watch us enjoy our horses. That graduated into becoming a football dad as Tanner progressed in his football career. David never missed a game and was always cheering for his son, #78, and the Trinity Lions. David treasured every moment spent with all of his children and grandchildren and has passed on an enduring legacy of love and laughter to them all. His greatest wish would be that all of his children remain close and support each other's successes in life. The brightest spot in his life since his retirement was the birth of Demy Lane Burnham to Daughter Dusty Lane Diget. Demy has truly been his very reason for waking up each day. He made them breakfast every morning, continually changed the channel for her cartoon choices, made her snacks, went for walks, played with the dogs, and soaked in every moment with her. In Davids perspective, everything was for Demy, and he loved her fiercely. It grieved him that she may not remember their time together as she is only two. A book is underway for Demy outlining every story of the time they spent together so that she will have it forever to look back on and know how much she was loved by him. David's last words to his wife and kids were "I love you." And "Thank you Jesus for taking my pain away. I love you Jesus." David was truly a great man who never met a stranger. He stood ready to help anyone in need at any hour of the day or night. He taught many young people to paint and repair cars. His passion was fixing things. He is tremendously missed already, and we cannot imagine life without him, although we fully recognize the blessing it was to have had him as ours for so long.
