Loretta Tysinger

Loretta Curl Tysinger, aged 86, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2025. Born in Irondale, Alabama, to the late Harry & Dolores Curl. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Wesley Tysinger; her two sisters, Harriet Tuggle and Betty Jo Williams; step daughter, Joan Wesley Tysinger. Loretta was a true Southern belle whose warmth and love touched everyone she met. A 1956 graduate of Shades Valley High School (Birmingham, AL) , Loretta went on to attend Auburn University, where she was a proud member of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. Her love for college sports was evident in her enthusiastic support of the Auburn Tigers and the Georgia Tech Yellowjackets. After residing in Chamblee, Georgia, Loretta moved to Newnan, Georgia, to be closer to her daughter and beloved grandchildren, who affectionately called her "Retta". She shared a deep bond with her family, always expressing her love with an open heart. An avid lover of the arts, Loretta enjoyed the symphony and theater, she was a skilled bridge player and tai chi enthusiast. She and her husband cherished their annual trips to The Masters in Augusta, Georgia. Her passion for Georgia politics was well-known, and she traveled the world, embracing new cultures and experiences. Loretta is survived by her loving family, who will forever cherish her memory and the joy she brought into their lives. Survivors include her son, Young William Smith and his wife Janet of Lexington, Kentucky; daughter, Rebecca Jo Frey and husband Steve of Newnan, Georgia; grandchildren, Harper Smith Michael and her husband Colin of Lexington, Kentucky, Frances Wesley Frey of Birmingham, Alabama, William Edward Frey of Newnan, Georgia; step daughters Jan Tysinger Siemens and husband John of Belleville, Illinois, Meg Tysinger Hartin of Marietta, Georgia; grandchildren, Michael Siemens and his wife Kari of Fenton, Missouri, Katherine Siemens Rouse and husband Matthew of Atlanta, Georgia, Jeffery Hartin of Roswell, Georgia, Caroline Hartin Dwozan and husband John of Marietta, Georgia; great-grandchildren, Madeline Rouse, Elizabeth Siemens and Charlotte Dwozan; nephews, Russell Williams, David Williams, Paul Tuggle; nieces, Lynne Williams Hope and Leigh Tuggle Olivar. A celebration of Loretta's life will be held at 4:00 PM on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Christ Presbyterian Church, 2231 US-29, Newnan, Georgia 30265. A later burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery (Arlington, VA). In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Coweta Samaritan Clinic, 137 Jackson St, Newnan, Georgia 30263.
