Mary Elizabeth Ferrell

There is a saying that reminds us that wherever a joyful person goes, they leave a part of that joy behind. Mary Broome Ferrell sure left an adequate supply of her ebullient spirit wherever she went. It was not easy to remain downcast if she was in the room. She was never one to pass up an opportunity to share humorous stories or regale in those of others and laugh even when she was the object of the story. Mary was born May 5, 1931, in the Roscoe Community of Coweta County. She attended the primitive school there. It was also at that school that she met a dashing young figure of a man by the name of James William Ferrell. Their love would blossom into their marriage in 1948. Anything she did, she did with her whole heart, especially in her roles as a wife, a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a friend to all. Mary was one of the many young women who spent their employee years as a seamstress at Playtex, and she worked there until she retired. She loved flowers and after her retirement, she worked at Flowers by Freddie. Mary was a woman of unshakeable faith. She and James were devoted members of Macedonia Baptist Church and were active in all of its programs and activities. There were those members who were there every time the doors were open. Who knows; she probably had the key! As the years passed by, she and James enjoyed the meetings, activities, and especially the trips of The Young at Heart group. In the late afternoon of November 16, 2023, God in Heaven realized that his faithful servant Mary had done all she possibly could in her exemplary life and extended His hand to her as she crossed that beautiful river between life in this world and the greater glory of His unending life. Mary had served Him and all her friends and family with a servant's heart and would have no fear of the glory to come. Preceding Mary in death were her parents, all of her siblings, and her beloved husband James. She is survived by her children James Thomas "Tommy" (and Carol) Ferrell, Pamela Diane Ferrell "Pam" (and Tommy) Clemons, Gregory Don "Greg" (and Dianne) Ferrell. She adored and was adored by her grandchildren, Jenny Legg (Ed), Jamie Ferrell (Katie), Eddie Royal (Erin), Amy Smith, Summer Bryant, Kati Ferrell, Cassie Robinson (Andrew), Claire Bryant (Justin), and great-grandchildren, Logan, Julian, Lyric, Zoey, Benjamin, Henry, Emilia, Brenlie, Jasie, Kensley and Will. and brother-in-law, Sanders Ferrell. The service to honor the life of this good woman will be on Sunday, November 19th at 2:00 PM at Macedonia Baptist Church in the historic sanctuary. The service will be led by Dr. John Riley and Reverend Matthew Myers. The visitation will be on Saturday evening between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM at McKoon Funeral Home at 38 Jackson Street.
